Crowdfunding can be understood as, the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people. In our theory this is identified as a trend or issue, however here are some 'pros' to this method.

Due to the grand amount of people targeted in crowdsourcing, it provides opportunities for building great momentum and building a market. these two factors are ideal for large political situations, such as the US election, because with considerable momentum, brings equally support and in turn validates the source of the matter. Once the validation of the offer grows, laypeople begin to think that it is, in fact, valid and 'jump on the bandwagon'. To further the fantastic nature of this method, the fundees finance the proposal! That's right if you can lure people into believing your proposal, they become willing to put money into the carry out of the idea!

So, how could this be bad?

The modern world of technology and digital media discourages crowdfunding and views it as an issue to the modern world because of the reality that accompanies the pros. The cons being almost too unfavourable that they discourage any individual in consideration of this method.

Crowdfunding is full of scammers, there are many proposed projects that have a successful proposal but do not pull through in executing the actual project. This can leave fundees or people on board of the project with monetary loss and low esteem for the dissolution of being a part of a great team venture. If the crowdfunding project isn't promoted properly, you can get false positives. these indicate that there 'isn't a market' or the idea isn't good enough. Crowdfunding is also expensive, provides minimal value and one source of negative feedback can destroy the entire proposal (Startups.com 2018).

An alternative to crowdfunding would be to prepare a solid business model and/or integrated marketing communications plan (IMC). These methods are valid and enable legitimate growth opportunities in any business. One of the many definitions of a business model described by Rappa (2009), is that a business model is a method of doing business by which a company can sustain itself -- that is, generate revenue.

So, did Trump use crowdfunding to rig the election? We can't reveal, but what do you think?

Very insightful post Alannah! I do believe Trump did some questionable actions to help win the election. (Check out the Cambridge Analytica doco called 'The Great Hack' on Netflix if you haven't seen it). Like you mentioned, I believe crowdfunding has its pros and cons and has its place in business and marketing if used responsibly and ethically!
